I've read the rule book for how to compute a score for a player who is unable to complete a game. I'd like to make sure if I am doing this right...

Frame one, 9-0: frame 2 strike

90|X|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|

Bowlers average 197, absentee score -10

1/10 of 187 = 18.7

18.7 x 8 (frames remaining) = 149.6 (drop the decimal = 149)

Bowler knocked down 19 pins + 149 for absentee score = 168 total score.

Is that correct?

Does the strike only count for 10?

Thanks,

Correct, except don't use absentee score; in score entry use the "I" (for Injury) score entry feature. In the game box, type the letter I, press tab or space, then type 168. Score counts for the team and not the bowler. Use the absentee score for the remaining games, assuming there are remaining games in the set.

Thanks Bob,

Definately use the "I" score. The score of the injury must not count against the bowler's average, but it does have to count for the team score.

I think Derrick was (correctly) saying that the 149 was the "absentee" score to be added in for that game per USBC rules for the remaining frames. (The remaining frames are calculated based on the league's rule for absentee score (typically average minus 10 pins)). But yes, if putting it in BLS it should be entered as an "i" (injured) score.
