I am in a somewhat unique situation as a good friend and I are each the secretary of our center's two largest leagues. We are also BLS users (he is not a participant here) and we both decided to use BLS independently.
He's the same person who helped me out last season by putting my league into operation when I had that disabling fall (which is still referenced in this thread (http://bbs.cdesoftware.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2306)). He visited me in the hospital and I gave him an apartment key, instructions, and he knew what to do.
He and I joined each other's leagues this season and I think we both knew that either of us would assist the other should the need arise, for whatever reason. We hadn't said a word about it, we just knew.
A couple weeks ago, he mentioned that his father was terminally ill. Naturally, I put him at ease regarding his league (where he's acting as both secretary and treasurer). Today, he called me and let me know that his father wouldn't likely make it through this week; he and two siblings and a significant other all would be pre-bowling later that day. He said he'd leave everything where I'd be able to find it and when I go later this week; it will all be there for me to handle.
There is a great deal of camaraderie in this league, I've observed, even with its size and I know that nobody will feel "lost" in their secretary's absence, and that things will for the most part take care of themselves. No need to get into detail here, just noting that I'm confident in what's to come.
My friendship here is strong enough that I wouldn't refuse to help should he not be using BLS (this friendship transcends such imaginary boundaries) and general good will doesn't even know any such limits. I'd like to think that other users here, regardless of how often they post or respond on these forums, would be so generous with their time.
